Following the end of the three decade civil war in North and East in 2009, expansion of sea bass production with an overall goal of supporting rebuilding livelihoods of the war affected people in Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, government initiated assistance to private sector ventures. The assistance was provided through Export Development Board of Sri Lanka (EDB). Purpose of this intervention to develop small fisheries households to supply sea bass to large scale companies, which supply to international buyers (export markets).
